Lock Repair in Austin, TX — Capital City Locksmith

Most locks that feel broken are not. They are dirty, worn, misaligned or fighting a door that has moved. Repair is usually a fraction of replacement and takes about the same time.

Typical repairs: cleaning and re-lubricating a seized cylinder with the right dry lubricant rather than the oil somebody sprayed in last year, replacing a worn cam or tailpiece, tightening a handle that has chewed its spindle, and re-shimming strikes so the bolt lands square.

Where a lock genuinely is finished, we say so and price a replacement. But we would rather charge you for an hour of repair than sell hardware you did not need.

What the job involves

  • Diagnosed before anything is sold

Most sticking locks are alignment or dirt, not failure.

  • Right lubricant, not oil

Household oil turns a cylinder into a dust trap. We use dry lubricant.

  • Repair quoted against replacement

You get both numbers and choose.

Common questions

My key is getting harder to turn. What is that?

Usually a worn key, a dirty cylinder or a dropped door. All three are cheap to sort and all three end in a snapped key if ignored.

Is WD-40 bad for locks?

Yes. It flushes out what little lubricant is there and then attracts dust. A dry PTFE or graphite lubricant is what a cylinder wants.

Can you repair a multipoint mechanism?

Sometimes. Gearboxes are often cheaper to replace than repair, and we will give you both prices.
