Auto Lock Picking & Decoding
Picking a car lock is not just about getting the door open. Decoding the wafers tells us how to cut a working key, which is what turns a lockout into a solved problem rather than a temporary one.
Vehicle wafer locks respond to picks and decoders designed for them. Once the cuts are read off the door or ignition lock, a blade is cut to match, and on an immobilised vehicle the transponder is then programmed to the car.
This is also the route when the key code is unavailable from the VIN, which happens on older imports and vehicles where the lock has been replaced at some point in its life.

Common questions
Is picking a car lock legal?
Yes, performed by a licensed locksmith for the person who can prove they own the vehicle. We check ownership before any tool touches the car.
Will picking wear out the lock?
No. Correct picking is gentler on wafers than years of a worn key going in and out.
Can you decode from the ignition instead of the door?
Yes, and on some makes it is the better read because the ignition wafers are less worn than the door.
