Safe Lock Repair & Replacement — Capital City Locksmith

Safe locks fail in fairly predictable ways: keypads die, dials lose their feel, solenoids stick, and bolt work jams after a safe has been dragged across a room.

Where the safe is still open, a lock swap is straightforward and takes under an hour. Where it has failed shut, it becomes an opening job first and a repair job second, which is why calling at the first sign of trouble is much cheaper.

Warning signs worth acting on: a dial that feels gritty or has developed a dead spot, a keypad that needs two presses, and bolts that need the handle jiggled. All three are cheap now and expensive later.

What the job involves

  • Repaired before it fails shut

Far cheaper than opening a jammed safe afterwards.

  • Keypads, dials, solenoids, bolt work

    Domestic, office and gun safes.

  • Upgrade options

A better lock in the same footprint if the original is a known weak point.

Common questions

My keypad beeps but the safe will not open.

Usually a failing solenoid or a flat battery. Change the battery first; if that does not do it, stop trying and call before it fails completely.

The dial feels gritty. Is that serious?

It is a warning. Grit and dead spots in a mechanical dial mean wear, and wear ends with a safe that will not open.

Can you fit a better lock?

Usually yes, in the same footprint, including upgrading a keypad to a mechanical dial or the other way round.
