Whole-House Lock Change After Closing

Every exterior lock changed on the day a family took possession of the house, front, back, side gate and garage.

Nobody knows how many keys to a resale house are floating around. Realtors, contractors, the last owner's neighbour. Changing the locks on move-in day is the cheapest security decision a buyer makes.

We replaced the cylinders on six exterior openings and keyed the whole set alike. Two of the doors needed strike plate work because the screws were biting into trim rather than framing.

The family walked away with four matching keys and a note of which door needed a new weather seal, which was not our job but was worth telling them about.
