Rekeying Locks in Austin, TX
Rekeying re-pins the cylinder so it accepts a different key. The lock stays on the door, every old key stops working, and you pay for ten minutes of labour instead of a box of new hardware.
It is the right answer in most of the situations people reach for new locks: a house you just closed on, a tenant who moved out, a contractor who had a key for six weeks, a roommate who left on bad terms.
We rekey on site, key everything alike so the household carries one key, and hand over cut keys before we leave. A typical four-to-six-lock house is finished inside the hour.

Common questions
Is rekeying as good as new locks?
For key control, identical: the old keys stop working either way. New locks only make sense if the hardware is worn or you want a higher grade.
Can locks from different brands be keyed alike?
Often. Where the keyways will not match we swap one cylinder so the whole house does.
How many keys do I get?
Two per keyway as standard, extras a few dollars each while we are there.
