Key Blanks Cut for Cars, Doors & Padlocks — Capital City Locksmith

A blank is just an uncut key of the right profile. Having the right one in stock is the difference between finishing a job in ten minutes and telling you to come back on Thursday.

The vans carry vehicle blades for common makes, residential and commercial keyways, padlock and cabinet blanks, and a range of restricted profiles for master key systems.

Restricted and patented blanks are deliberately not stocked for walk-up cutting. Those exist so that nobody can copy your key without authorisation, and we honour that: a restricted key gets cut against the signature on the system's record.

What the job involves

  • Broad blank stock on the van

Vehicle, residential, commercial, padlock and cabinet profiles.

  • Cut to code where possible

More accurate than tracing a worn original.

  • Restricted keys handled properly

Cut only against the authorisation on file for that system.

Common questions

Can I just buy blanks from you?

For ordinary keyways, yes. Restricted and patented profiles are not sold uncut, which is the entire point of a restricted system.

Why will a hardware store copy not work in my lock?

Usually the blank profile is close but not right, or the machine traced a worn key. Cutting to code fixes both.

Do you cut skeleton or bit keys for old furniture?

Often, yes. Bring the piece or a clear photo of the lock and we will tell you.
