A tired multipoint mechanism on a composite front door swapped for a serviceable unit and a high-security cylinder, keyed alike with the back door.
The homeowner called because the front door had started needing a shoulder to lock it. That is the classic warning sign of a multipoint gearbox on the way out, and the failure mode is being locked out on your own porch.
We stripped the door down, measured the case and backset, and fitted a matching mechanism. While the door was open we replaced the euro cylinder with a snap-resistant unit and keyed it alike with the back door, so the household went from three keys to one.
The strike keeps were re-shimmed so the hooks land square instead of dragging, which is what wore the old gearbox out in the first place. Two keys were cut on site and the customer kept the spare cylinder key for a housesitter.
